Admissions Information - Grades 1-3

Admissions requirements

Because of the students’ young age, students are admitted to our University for Young People (UYP) without testing. While all of the UYP classes are designed for gifted students, students do not have to be formally identified as gifted to enroll in these classes. Families who wish to enroll their students in a UYP class can simply register them to take it.

When students enter 4th grade, they are required to be identified as a Baylor TIP Scholar to participate in TIP Intermediate summer programming.  Our DECATS summer programming for 4th-7th graders requires students be tested for admission or provide evidence that they have been identified as gifted and talented by their school.

Curious about your child's abilities?

Through Baylor TIP, families may register for additional testing for their students should they desire more information about their specific abilities or potential. Testing will be administered in-person at the Center for Talent Identification and Programming in Waco, Texas, and will be scheduled with our office after registration is completed. Students do not need to be formally identified as gifted or as Baylor TIP Scholars in order to be tested.
