Admissions Information - Grades 4-7

Admissions requirements

Admissions requirements for students entering grades 4–7 vary depending on the summer program they choose. It is important to note that beginning the summer before students enter 8th grade, Baylor TIP summer programming is limited to those who have been identified as Baylor TIP Scholars.

Baylor TIP Intermediate

Our Baylor TIP Intermediate program is limited to those students who have been identified as Baylor TIP Scholars.  Identification as a Baylor TIP Scholar can be achieved through assessment or providing existing test scores.  There are three options available:

  • Students can participate in an above-level assessment through Baylor TIP, the Indicator of Academic Readiness.
  • Students can request Additional GT Testing through Baylor TIP
  • Students can provide existing test scores and apply for Alternate Admission

Qualifications Needed to Take the Baylor TIP Assessments

Students qualify to take our above-level assessments through any one of three avenues:

  • score in the top 25% on one or more subtests of a state or national standardized exam (local norms are recommended but not required),
  • be formally identified as gifted or talented by a district, or
  • be recommended by a teacher, administrator, and/or parent.

DECATS

Our DECATS (DeBusk Enrichment Center for Academically Talented Students) summer camp requires that students provide proof of gifted identification upon registration. Students who have not been formally identified should add the testing option to their registration form and contact tiptest@baylor.edu to schedule a time for testing. Enrollment will be contingent on identification via testing; students who do not qualify after testing will have their tuition for the camp refunded, and their spot will be released to another student.
